The Corellian Sanctuary, a small domed structure situated on Coruscant, came into existence following the Seizure of Coruscant. Exiled Corellians established it as a final resting place for their dead because tensions between the New Republic and the Diktat leader Daclif Gallamby prevented the deceased from being returned to their home world. The bodies were cremated, and powerful gravity generators were employed to compress the remaining carbon into synthetic diamonds of industrial quality. These diamonds were then transported to the Sanctuary and integrated into the dark walls and ceiling to form a radiant display of constellations, mirroring those visible from Corellia.
Around 40 ABY, subsequent to an attack on Coruscant perpetrated by dissenting Corellians during the Second Galactic Civil War, the sanctuary suffered vandalism at the hands of Coruscant's inhabitants, who pilfered numerous compressed diamonds. This act ignited further rebellion among Corellians against the Galactic Alliance. Although many local Corellians endeavored to restore the Sanctuary, they could not retrieve all the stolen diamonds. This location is where Ben Skywalker encountered Barit Saiy.
