Corusca fishermen were essentially miners, but instead of digging into the ground, they mined for Corusca gems located high up in the atmosphere of Yavin. Their typical setup involved attaching either an energy purse seine or a flexisteel cable net, characterized by a tightly woven mesh, to a group of single-pilot, space-faring skiffs in addition to a single trawler. The trawler's function was to propel the entire assembly forward, while the skiffs worked to maintain the stability of the net.
Many Corusca fishermen chose to navigate along the routes taken by Yavin's floaters to minimize the danger of impacts from Corusca gems. While this strategy enhanced the safety of their mining operations, it also had the effect of slowing down their overall pace and diminishing the total quantity of gems collected in their nets.
Corusca fishermen, working exclusively in Yavin's upper atmospheric regions, anticipated capturing only the smaller Corusca gems and dust particles, as opposed to the larger gems found deeper within the atmosphere. Despite this limitation, the practice of mining in the upper atmosphere was still seen as a worthwhile endeavor.
