Crimson Empire, initially released by Dark Horse Comics as a comic series of the same name, was transformed into a complete audio drama featuring a full cast. HighBridge Audio distributed the audio drama in two formats: a set of two compact discs and a set of two cassette tapes, both released on March 2, 1999, a year following the comic series' conclusion. Peter Moore directed the production, while Tom Voegeli served as the producer. Notably, many voice actors from the Dark Forces audio dramas, which had been released in the preceding years, lent their talents to this production.
