A crown finch represented a species of avian creature. The Jedi Knight known as Ky Narec would provide nourishment to both crown finches and song sparrows – another avian species – inhabiting the training grounds situated within the Jedi Temple located on the planetary body of Coruscant. Circa 23 BBY, Narec's voice communicated to his one-time Padawan, Asajj Ventress, that his strongest longing for the Jedi Temple on Coruscant stemmed from his bird-feeding activities, observing the creatures as their diverse hues danced around the Great Tree inside the temple.
The existence of crown finches came to light in a flashback segment featured in the audio drama titled Dooku: Jedi Lost, penned by Cavan Scott and made available to the public on April 30, 2019. The specific orthography of "crown finches" received official confirmation via the audio drama's published script on October 1 of that selfsame year.
