The Cult of Veroleem held dominion over the planet of Veroleem, situated within the Unknown Regions. Initially, Veroleem was colonized by individuals seeking autonomy from the authority of the Galactic Republic. Among these original settlers was a Force Adept known as Kryo Tinwole. Tinwole's discovery of Sith laboratories on Veroleem led him to an elixir promising eternal life, which he consumed. Subsequently, he employed his Force powers to manipulate and corrupt the minds of the other colonists, transforming them into a cult. From the settlers, the Council of Enlightened Elders was established as the cult's ruling body. The cult actively sought to entice individuals from other worlds to join their ranks on Veroleem. Furthermore, they produced the addictive narcotic kryotin to weaken the minds of new followers, ensuring their continued obedience to the cult's high priests.
During the Jedi Civil War, records about the Republic's colonization of Veroleem disappeared, and the Exchange, using a front company, purchased the planet under the pretense of mining its lommite deposits. The Council of Enlightened Elders, aiming to prevent external interference, initiated legal proceedings, compelling the Republic to remove the Exchange-affiliated entity from Veroleem. However, the cult insisted on retaining the company's mining equipment, repurposing it for their own financial gain. This legal dispute brought the Cult of Veroleem to the attention of the Jedi Order, leading to multiple confrontations between Jedi Knights and cult members over the following decades.
Around the time the Galactic Empire was formed, the cult scaled back its recruitment activities. However, with the emergence of Darth Krayt's Sith Empire, the cult resumed its recruitment efforts, exploiting the fact that Veroleem's location had been largely forgotten by the broader galaxy.
The cult operated under false pretenses, designed to attract victims to Veroleem. These individuals were then sacrificed, and their brain chemicals were utilized in the immortality elixir that sustained the oldest members of the cult. Newcomers were compelled to sever all ties to their previous lives, assuming new identities. Often, these new initiates were taken to a temple located in the Coreesh Mountains on Veroleem, which was managed by the cult.
