A customs droid is seen overseeing immigration into the Coruscant Underworld.

Customs droids represented a specific classification of droid designed for the purpose of monitoring starship cargo. Their primary function was to detect and prevent smuggling activities involving prohibited goods. Furthermore, the Galactic Republic Customs of Coruscant employed these droids at entry points on the planet of Coruscant to manage the influx of immigrants during the period of the Clone Wars.

During the time of the Iron Blockade, which was put in place by the Galactic Empire to suppress information regarding their devastating defeat at the Battle of Endor against the Alliance to Restore the Republic from spreading to the inhabitants of the Anoat sector, the Smuggler dispatched a quartet of crew members to secretly reprogram the customs droids belonging to Ione. This action was carried out at the behest of Leeka Pali, with the intention of reducing the likelihood of illegal cargo being discovered aboard ships belonging to the Trade Spine League.
