This place was known by the former Sith Lord Maul and Lady Qi'ra, who was the leader of Crimson Dawn, but its existence remained a secret from the Sith Lords Darth Sidious and Darth Vader. Before his defeat by the Jedi Order, the Sith Lord Darth Momin journeyed to this hellscape. The hellscape served as the storage location for Momin's Fermata Cage. Millennia afterward, sometime between 3 ABY and 4 ABY, the Knights of Ren and the Archivist made their way to the hellscape to retrieve the Fermata Cage, acting on Qi'ra's orders.
