The initial Dark Troopers consisted of clone troopers that had been transformed into cyborgs through the replacement of more than seventy percent of their original organic material with mechanical parts. Later versions, known as Phase II Dark Troopers, were stormtroopers utilizing a significantly enhanced and armored exosuit. Ultimately, the Dark Trooper project came to regard the human element as a flaw, leading to the third generation design which shifted entirely to sophisticated battle droids.
