Phase II Dark Trooper

The Phase II Dark Trooper represented an experimental class of stormtrooper developed by the Galactic Empire within the framework of the Dark Trooper project. This Phase II iteration consisted of a robust armored body suit in black and silver hues, worn by a human pilot. The helmet incorporated two red, illuminated lenses, and an assault cannon was affixed to the left forearm. Dark Troopers of the Phase II variety served in assaults against enemy fortifications, with multiple units transportable via a K79-S80 Imperial Troop Transport for battlefield deployment.

During the period of the Galactic Civil War, the Imperial Military assessed Phase II Dark Troopers, deploying them in engagements such as the Battle for Tatooine. Subsequently, the human pilot was determined to be the ultimate vulnerability of the dark trooper. Consequently, the Phase-III Dark Trooper transformed the dark trooper into a battle droid. However, the Dark Trooper project eventually reverted to its origins as a mechanized, heavily armored suit in the fourth generation design.

Behind the scenes

The Phase II Dark Trooper made its initial Star Wars canon debut in the mobile game Star Wars: Commander (2014), where its visual design drew inspiration from the purge trooper featured in the Star Wars Legends continuity. Its original conception occurred for the Legends video game Star Wars: Dark Forces (1995).
