Darth Vader 1 is the inaugural issue of the canon comic book series known as Star Wars: Darth Vader. Greg Pak served as the writer, while Raffaele Ienco provided the illustrations. Marvel Comics released it on February 5, 2020. This issue presents the narrative "Dark Heart of the Sith Part I," which unfolds directly after Darth Vader's duel against Luke Skywalker.

After Luke's rejection of Vader in Empire Strikes Back, Darth Vader, accompanied by the forensic droid ZED-67, departs from Admiral Piett's Star Destroyer, disregarding the Emperor's summons. Vader's initial destination is Tatooine, seeking to punish those who concealed Luke's existence from him. Upon arrival, he proceeds to the deserted residence of Cliegg Lars. During his time there, he faces an assault from local pirates who mistakenly identify him as an imperial ambassador. Using the Force, he brings down their ship and slaughters them. Subsequently, he travels to Padme's apartment on Coruscant, discovering that the security recordings are missing. However, he finds a Scout transmitter that guides him to Vendaxa. Upon reaching the transmitter's origin, he encounters local wildlife attacking a rebel cell, which includes a Gungan and is led by one of Padme's handmaidens.
