Dave Chapman, a British puppeteer and actor, is known for his work as one of the two performers who brought BB-8 to life in Star Wars: Episode VII The Force Awakens. He later returned to this role in Star Wars: Episode VIII. Furthermore, in Solo: A Star Wars Story, he was the primary performer for Proxima and also played a Mimban guard.
During the making of the television series Andor, there were initial plans to have a different actor redub the dialogue for the droid B2EMO. However, Tony Gilroy, the writer and executive producer, reviewed numerous audition recordings for the part until his brother, John Gilroy, expressed his preference for Chapman's voice. Subsequently, they contacted Chapman to inform him that he would be providing the voice for the droid, a revelation that deeply moved him. Chapman also physically operated B2EMO within the show.
