The events of the narrative unfold shortly after the First Battle of Geonosis. We find Jyl Somtay, a Jedi recently elevated in rank, charged with the mission of eradicating the Geonosian insurgency.
On a particular evening, she receives communication from Dr. Frayne, a researcher immersed in the study of Geonosian civilization. This rendezvous proves to be a deception, culminating in Jyl's incapacitation through loss of consciousness.
