During the Zaarin insurrection, forces loyal to the Imperial government fought to protect the XQ6 Platform Research installation from attacks launched by the forces of Grand Admiral Zaarin.
Following Zaarin's failed kidnapping attempt on Palpatine, he shifted his focus to diminishing the Empire's technological capabilities. His initial action involved destroying all TIE Advanced production facilities located within the Omar system. Subsequently, he turned his attention to raiding the Research platform situated in the Parmel system. Recognizing the potential for this to create a positive feedback loop benefiting the Rebels, offering them a chance to recover and potentially mount a comeback, which Zaarin could then exploit, Imperial Loyalist forces, aided by Maarek Stele, seized Zaarin's Research Platform. This action prevented Zaarin from furthering his research and development of the TIE Defender. The Imperial-class Star Destroyer Adarga was assigned to oversee the platform during its repair and reactivation. However, Zaarin, refusing to concede, dispatched another assault force, consisting of multiple Assault Transports and 4 TIE Defenders, with the intention of capturing the platform.
The Adarga, possessing only a limited number of fighter squadrons for defense, requested reinforcements. Maarek Stele engaged the Transports, intercepting their Proton rockets directed at the Adarga, inflicting significant damage on the Transports. Despite his skill, the transports overwhelmed the Adarga, forcing it to retreat from the battle. The attacking force then redirected its attention to the Research platform, launching rockets at the station. Shortly after, reinforcements arrived in the form of 4 Escort shuttles Red Knight. Even though the platform's shields were unable to withstand the assault, Stele successfully destroyed the remaining Assault transports, preventing them from deploying their Stormtroopers onto the platform. Under the direction of the Secret Order, Stele employed his Tractor beam to immobilize the TIE Defenders, prompting the launch of 4 Tugs, Tug 8f9, Tug 7f9, Tug 6f9 and Tug 5f9, to board and recover the TIE Defenders.
Shortly thereafter, two Corellian corvettes Uhu arrived and attempted to deploy Keyhole probes to gather intelligence in the area. Maarek Stele destroyed both of them.
Despite the successful defense, the attack inflicted substantial damage. The platform's defenses were compromised, and no Loyalist capital ships remained to protect it. With no other feasible options available, the decision was made to evacuated the platform as quickly as possible, recognizing Zaarin's unwavering determination.
This battle initially appeared in the 1994 LucasArts video game Star Wars: TIE Fighter, where players assume the role of Maarek Stele. The mission "Hold Platform," the second mission within the game's ninth tour of the campaign titled "T/D Technology," depicts this battle.
