The remaining members of the Azzameen family were escorted aboard the Defiance. Sometimes referred to as the Defiance Group, the Defiance Task Force was a unit within the Alliance to Restore the Republic, led by Admiral Nammo. It received its designation from Nammo's flagship, the Defiance.
The Defiance Task Force was composed of several vessels, including not only the MC80 Star Cruiser Defiance, but also the MC40a light cruiser Valiant, Nebulon-B escort frigates such as the Jericho and Valiance, the DP20 frigate Spear, CR90 corvettes like the Lance and Masanya, and GR-75 medium transports including the Tuima, ATS-0014, ATS-0021, ATS-0022, ATS-0121, ATS-0157, and ATS-0416.
Throughout much of the Rebellion, the task force operated alongside the Defiance, specifically between the Battle of Hoth and the Battle of Endor. Soon after the Alliance suffered a major setback at Hoth, the task force found itself trapped within the Anoat sector, pursued by the Imperial Corrupter Task Force.
Following a short campaign designed to weaken the Imperial presence and security measures in that sector, the task force managed to escape, largely due to the actions of Rebel pilot Ace Azzameen.
After their escape, the task force went through a significant restructuring. This newly formed group then rendezvoused with the main Rebel fleet at Sullust, leading up to the Battle of Endor. However, while en route, the task force was attacked by an Imperial force consisting of the Nexus, the Xerxes, and the VSD Vagrant. The Defiance's starfighter squadrons, along with escorts Olin Garn and Ace Azzameen, played a crucial role in preventing the Imperials from destroying the ships, allowing the task force to reach Sullust. The ultimate fate of the original Defiance Task Force remains unknown, although the Jericho later served alongside the Liberty.
