Denis Lawson

Denis Lawson, born on September 27, 1947, is the actor who played Wedge Antilles, the pilot for the rebellion, in all three movies comprising the original trilogy. Interestingly, he is the uncle of Ewan McGregor on his mother's side. McGregor took on the role of Obi-Wan Kenobi in the prequel trilogy. Beyond his work in Star Wars, Lawson is well-known for his roles in the 1983 Scottish film Local Hero and the BBC television series Bleak House from 2005.

In Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope, Lawson's lines were voiced by David Ankrum. He later returned to the character, providing voice-over work for the Nintendo GameCube title Star Wars: Rogue Squadron II: Rogue Leader. Lawson also narrated the audio books for both Heir to the Empire and Dark Force Rising, where he not only reprised his role as Wedge Antilles but also voiced all other characters. Lawson declined an offer from George Lucas to make a cameo appearance as Captain Raymus Antilles in Star Wars: Episode III Revenge of the Sith.

Lawson was asked to reprise his role as Wedge Antilles in Star Wars: Episode VII The Force Awakens, but he turned it down, saying that it "just would have bored [him]." However, Lawson later clarified that he actually declined to appear in The Force Awakens because of a scheduling issue, and he would have been in the film if he had been available. He eventually came back to the role in 2019's Star Wars: Episode IX The Rise of Skywalker. Subsequently, Lawson lent his voice to Wedge Antilles in both the Star Wars: Squadrons video game and the Star Wars: Visions animated series.
