Star Wars: Visions can be described as an anthology series of animated shorts, presenting stories outside the established canon. The first collection was released with nine original short films. These shorts, crafted by various Japanese animation studios and drawing inspiration from anime, offer a culturally unique interpretation of Star Wars. The series made its debut on Disney+, the streaming platform, on September 22, 2021. The novel Ronin serves as a tie-in to the short film titled "The Duel." Each Visions short is accompanied by a behind-the-scenes featurette called Star Wars: Visions Filmmaker Focus, which delves into the production process. A second set of episodes of Star Wars: Visions was revealed on May 29, 2022, this time spotlighting animation studios from diverse corners of the globe. It was released on May 4, 2023. On November 19, 2024, a third volume of Star Wars: Visions was announced, returning to it's original focus on the anime genre with four returning animation studios along with three new ones, and a returning studio that has done Star Wars: The Clone Wars and Star Wars Resistance, as it set to be release in 2025.

Star Wars: Visions is a collection of animated short films that present entirely new and creative perspectives on the galaxy far, far away. This anthology series celebrates Star Wars through the unique artistic lens of some of the world's most talented anime creators. The collection showcases incredible visions from several of Japan's leading anime studios, delivering a revitalized and culturally diverse take on Star Wars.
Lucasfilm granted the storytellers maximum creative freedom in developing their Visions shorts, which meant allowing them to depart from the established Star Wars narrative. Matt Martin from the Lucasfilm Story Group has stated that all shorts are therefore non-canonical. Although some shorts, such as "Tatooine Rhapsody," could theoretically fit into the canon, no official source has yet integrated any Visions story into the official Star Wars timeline.
"The Elder", "Lop & Ochō", "The Ninth Jedi", and "THE TWINS" have been adapted into a manga series published by Square Enix in Japan's Big Gangan magazine, running from May 25, 2022, to August 25, 2022. The short film "T0-B1" received a young readers book adaptation titled Visions: T0-B1: The Droid Who Became a Jedi, published on September 20, 2022 by Golden Books, while "I Am Your Mother" and "Aau's Song" were adapted into the young readers graphic novel I Am Your Mother/Aau's Song, released in the Screen Comix series on April 2, 2024.
The universe and narrative of "The Duel" and The Ronin have been further explored through various media. Ronin: A Visions Novel (Japanese:『浪人』), authored by Emma Mieko Candon, was released by Del Rey on October 12, 2021. Additionally, two prequel one-shot comic books, written and illustrated by the episode's writer Takashi Okazaki, Visions 1 and Visions – Takashi Okazaki 1, were published by Marvel Comics on October 12, 2022 and March 20, 2024 respectively.
Visions – Peach Momoko 1, a standalone comic book written and illustrated by Peach Momoko, was released by Marvel Comics on November 15, 2023.
