A culinary tool known as a dental mop was suggested for use in preparing the Smapp creature. The recipe instructed that six quarts of thick butter be formed and combined with twelve tubes of Herbs de Lunar Eclipse; this mixture was then to be applied to the creature's exterior using the dental mop before baking.
The dental mop appeared in a single-page recipe, "Cooking a Smapp," authored by Bob Carrau for the 1993 book Monsters and Aliens from George Lucas. This book is a compilation of concept art and photos from various projects by George Lucas. Leland Chee, an employee of Lucasfilm who curates the Holocron continuity database, has stated that the book's contents are non-canonical within the Star Wars Legends continuity.
