Dera Darklighter was a female Human who resided on Tatooine during the time of the Galactic Civil War. She was the daughter of Huff Darklighter and his second wife, making her the younger half-sister of Biggs Darklighter, who served as a pilot in the Rebel Alliance.
Following the death of Biggs Darklighter at the Battle of Yavin, Dera Darklighter secretly became a member of the Rebel Alliance during the Galactic Civil War. Although she lacked the necessary skills to be a pilot, her charisma and enthusiasm made her an effective speaker. Consequently, she encouraged individuals from Tatooine to enlist in the Rebellion. Dera also attempted, without success, to persuade her father to cease his association with Jabba the Hutt in an effort to reduce crime and corruption on Tatooine. As a result, she chose to leverage her father's connections with Jabba's associates to gain knowledge of how to combat the Hutt and potentially aid the Rebellion. She succeeded in supplying the Alliance with smuggled goods and intelligence regarding Imperial forces.
In 1 ABY, she developed an intense interest in Tusken Raiders. She hired a spacer to eliminate a tribe of hazardous Sand People inhabiting a cave located close to their home.
Dera Darklighter made an appearance as a non-player character in the 2003 video game Star Wars Galaxies, a massively multiplayer online roleplaying game created by Sony Online Entertainment and distributed by LucasArts, before its shutdown on December 15, 2011. With the introduction of "Publish 25," also known as the "New Game Enhancements," on November 15, 2005, Dera Darklighter was integrated into the revised Darklighter's Estate questline.
