Millennia before the Clone Wars, the world of Oblis met its end, suffering complete destruction. This planet ceased to exist many years prior to that conflict.
Before the time of Darth Rivan, a Sith Lord, a wandering trader brought the Darkstaff to the planet of Oblis, situated within the Cularin system. This Sith artifact, a powerful and sentient object, then came into the possession of the Oblee, the native species of Oblis. The scientist-philosophers, the Oblee's ruling class, began studying it. The Darkstaff, with its inherent desire for destruction, began to subtly manipulate the Oblee. Using its power, the artifact summoned a shadow creature, an energy-based being from another dimension, and this entity took up residence in Oblis' atmosphere. Influenced by the Darkstaff, the Oblee perceived the shadow creature as a threat. Consequently, the scientist-philosophers decided to utilize the Darkstaff to power a weapon, intending to banish the shadow creature from the Cularin system.
To fuel their weapon, the scientist-philosophers crafted three focusing crystals. The entire Oblee species then channeled their collective hopes and fears into these crystals. The Darkstaff was placed within the machine, and the device was activated. However, upon activation, the Darkstaff harnessed the energy it had absorbed from the crystals to obliterate Oblis. This catastrophic event propelled the shadow creature out of the Cularin system and transformed the Oblee into incorporeal entities known as "shadow lurkers." Eventually, the remnants of Oblis coalesced to form the Cularin asteroid belt.
