Destruction of Tund

In the year 5 BBY, the Croke named Rokur Gepta instigated the annihilation of the planet known as Tund. This was achieved through the deployment of a biological agent, delivered via an electromagnetic torpedo. This weapon, unleashed by Gepta, extinguished all life on Tund. This resulted in the deaths of over eighteen million pureblooded Sith and Toongs who inhabited the world. The planet's surface became uninhabitable and its atmosphere was contaminated by radioactive fallout, except for a small area shielded by Gepta's force fields.

History

A pair of Toong walk the grounds of Tund.

Before 5 BBY, Rokur Gepta, a Force-sensitive member of the snail-like Croke species from Crakull, established himself on the planet Tund. Tund was a remote Force nexus situated in the Centrality, near the north-eastern edges of the Open Sea. Besides being home to a Toong population that colonized the planet in 45 BBY following the destruction of Toong'L, Tund had historically hosted a colony of pureblooded Sith. These Sith first arrived after the 27,700 BBY invasion of Korriban and subsequently became a haven for other Sith outcasts, exiles, and refugees from the Sith Worlds and the old Sith Empire.

Upon his arrival, Gepta skillfully used his species's inherent abilities of illusion and shapeshifting to secretly infiltrate the Sorcerers of Tund. These Sorcerers were a monastic order of pureblooded Sith Force users residing on the planet. The Croke studied their unique interpretations of ancient Sith teachings for a period, adopting their secrets for his own purposes. After acquiring all the knowledge he could from his unsuspecting instructors, Gepta launched an electromagnetic torpedo containing a biological agent at Tund. The resulting green fire, generated by these weapons, destroyed all life on Tund and contaminated its atmosphere. This transformed the once vibrant world, formerly a lush Force nexus, into an irradiated wasteland.

Once strong in the Living Force, Tund was rendered an irradiated wasteland.

At the time of its devastation, Tund had a total population of approximately eighteen million beings. The species composition included roughly thirteen million, one hundred and forty thousand Toong, representing seventy-three percent of the population; one million, two hundred and sixty thousand pureblooded Sith, accounting for seven percent; and a diverse collection of other species totaling about three million, six hundred thousand individuals, making up twenty percent. With the exception of Gepta himself, everyone on the planet died as a consequence of its destruction, leaving Gepta as the sole surviving Sorcerer of Tund.

Possibly in exchange for secrets of Tund, or perhaps out of respect for the Croke's capabilities, Galactic Emperor Palpatine appointed Gepta to the position of presiding Scrivinir of the Centrality. Palpatine was the Dark Lord of the Banite Sith and had long sought the ancient Sith knowledge held by the Sorcerers of Tund. He also gifted the Croke a decommissioned Imperial cruiser, the Wennis, to help him solidify his control over the remote region of space. Before his death at the hands of Lando Calrissian less than a year later, Gepta would periodically return to Tund, meditating within a small enclave protected from the planet's radioactive atmosphere by a system of force fields.
