The Diamala, with the singular form being Diamal, originated from the planet Diamal situated within the Core Worlds. This species, in conjunction with their adversaries, the Ishori, gained significant prominence amidst the turmoil surrounding the Caamas Document and the seeming reappearance of Grand Admiral Thrawn. Diamala could be identified by their distinguishing features: tough, leathery skin, flowing white manes, and uniquely shaped, fan-like ears capable of independent movement, used for expressive gesturing. Generally, the Diamala possessed a composed and detached demeanor, coupled with a profound sense of individual honor. Their extensive portfolio of financial and commercial assets was attributed to diligent effort, rather than mere chance.
In the year 19 ABY, discord arose when the Ishori denied armed Diamalan ships permission to accompany Diamalan merchant vessels into Ishori spaceports. The Iphigini extended an offer to mediate this disagreement. Han Solo, Chewbacca, and Luke Skywalker, who served as mediators during the preliminary discussions, were unsuccessful in facilitating a resolution between the two species. The division between them deepened as they adopted opposing stances on the Caamas Document controversy. While the Ishori vociferously advocated for the Bothans to provide crippling compensation for their involvement in the destruction of Caamas, the Diamala dispatched Nebula- and Endurance-class vessels to protect Bothawui. The Diamalan naval force also incorporated a dozen Marauder-class corvettes, some of which participated in operations against the Imperial Remnant during the aforementioned crisis, despite being purportedly acquired by their Commerce Ministry for freighter escort duties.
Porolo Miatamia, their representative to the New Republic Senate during 19 ABY, faced accusations from opposing political factions, alleging that he was as cunning and manipulative as the Bothans themselves.
