This material had the capability of being refined into a crimson-colored alloy, polished to a high degree, making it appropriate for application in the creation of lightsaber components.
The initial appearance of Dolovite occurred in the novel Catalyst: A Rogue One Novel. The name it bears shares a resemblance to dolomite, a mineral found in the real world.
