Around the year 6 BBY, the construction of the Dominant was completed, and its history became intertwined with the military career of Pter Thanas. While under the command of Thanas, the Dominant engaged in combat against the Crimson Nova pirates during the Battle of F'Dann IX. Furthermore, it is believed to have provided defensive support during Thanas's assignment at Alzoc III. When Thanas received orders to relocate to Bakura in 1 ABY, the Dominant was designated as the flagship of the system defense force under the leadership of Captain Dren Jamer. Its primary mission involved the comprehensive mapping of the Bakura system.
By the time 4 ABY arrived, the Dominant was beginning to show signs of wear, particularly with its failing lateral thrusters. Nevertheless, despite its age, the Dominant played a vital part in the Invasion of Bakura, serving as the most formidable warship within the Imperial-Rebel alliance stationed at Bakura. Following the successful repulsion of the invading forces, the Dominant redirected its weaponry towards the Alliance cruiser-carrier Flurry and, acting upon the instructions of Governor Nereus, proceeded to destroy it.
During the subsequent Bakuran revolution, Thanas made the decision to surrender the Dominant to the Alliance and defected from the Empire. As Captain Jamer departed with the remaining Imperial garrison troops, Thanas assumed command of the Dominant, which then became the flagship of the newly established Bakuran Alliance system defense force.
