The Doomgiver functioned as a military carrier for the Imperial forces, specifically within the Imperial Remnant.
In terms of size, the Doomgiver was comparable to a large Star Destroyer, but it possessed a greater number of vertical decks compared to the standard Imperial-class vessels of that era. Propelled by a sextet of engines arranged in pairs of three, its engine configuration bore a resemblance to that of the Executor-class Star Dreadnought.
The underside featured multiple detachable All Terrain Rapid Deployment Pods, and it incorporated at least a pair of command centers. Furthermore, the Doomgiver included a detention area equipped with holding cells. Within the ship's hangars resided a TIE fighter complement for defense, along with various personnel shuttles.

Admiral Galak Fyyar held command of the vessel. Fyyar utilized the Doomgiver as a means of transporting Dark Jedi Desann's army, which consisted of Reborn soldiers and shadowtroopers, to the location of Yavin 4 with the intention of eradicating the Jedi Praxeum. However, Kyle Katarn, a Jedi Knight and agent of the New Republic, successfully infiltrated the ship and transmitted the Doomgiver's coordinates to Rogue Squadron, leading to an ambush above the jungle moon.
Katarn subsequently sabotaged the ship's shield generator, rendering it vulnerable. The Doomgiver was ultimately destroyed when Rogue Leader managed to obliterate the bridge. After a confrontation with Fyyar, Katarn managed to escape and successfully rescued Jan Ors, who had been held as a prisoner on board. The resulting explosion of the Doomgiver above Yavin 4 led to the annihilation of a significant portion of the invasion force, including Reborn, shadowtroopers, and Remnant troops. Those who managed to land were either killed or taken prisoner by Jedi and New Republic forces.
