Dratun, a Gotal male from the Legends continuity, shared drinks with Bludlow, a Rodian, at Chalmun's Spaceport Cantina in Mos Eisley on Tatooine around 1.5 ABY. This city was on the planet. When an officer of the Galactic Empire announced a system-wide curfew, Dratun was among the many patrons who chose to remain in the cantina. In response, Ackmena, the bartender, provided a complimentary round of drinks and performed the song "Goodnight, But Not Goodbye," which inspired Dratun and the other customers to leave. The evening's occurrences were recorded and shown to members of the Imperial forces.

One evening circa 1.5 ABY, a brown-haired, brown-eyed Gotal male named Dratun found himself at Chalmun's Spaceport Cantina, a bar within the city of Mos Eisley on the planet Tatooine. After being served by a waitress, he was joined at his table, first by the Advozse Bom Vimdin, who departed and was later succeeded by the Rodian Bludlow. As Dratun and Bludlow were consuming drinks, an officer representing the Galactic Empire appeared on the cantina's wallscreen, announcing the imposition of a curfew across the entire Tatoo system. When Ackmena, the Human bartender, attempted to get everyone to leave, Dratun was among those who responded by throwing trash at her.
After Ackmena's further attempts proved unsuccessful, Dratun and Bludlow joined the other cantina patrons in demanding another round of [drinks](/article/alcohol-legends], which the bartender reluctantly granted. While serving the intoxicated patrons, she sang the song "Goodnight, But Not Goodbye", and when she urged everyone to follow her, Dratun and Bludlow joined the line and danced out the front door. The events of the evening were recorded and broadcast throughout the galaxy as part of a program entitled "Life on Tatooine," which was mandatory viewing for all members of the Imperial forces. The intention behind broadcasting the program was to inspire a sense of superiority in its viewers by showcasing the cantina's lowly inhabitants.
Despite an Imperial curfew, Dratun initially refused to leave Chalmun's Spaceport Cantina. When Ackmena insisted that he depart, he responded by throwing garbage at her. However, following a complimentary drink, he exited during a musical performance. After Ackmena called the Rodian "heartless," Dratun offered Bludlow comfort.
Dratun made his debut in Star Wars canon as an unnamed background alien during the cantina scene of 1978's The Star Wars Holiday Special, portrayed by an uncredited actor. Several of the alien masks used in the scene had been recycled from the cantina set of 1977's original Star Wars film, which featured two Gotal characters: Feltipern Trevagg and an unnamed Gotal. Considering that Dratun's hair color differs from that of either of those Gotals, Star Wars authors Tim Veekhoven and Kevin Beentjes have suggested that his mask was either modified from its original appearance in the film, or created from scratch. Makeup artist Rick Baker created the Gotal mask used in the original film, as well as all of the costumes that were newly created for the Holiday Special's cantina scene. Filming the latter took a full twenty-four hours, and some of the actors wearing alien suits fainted due to oxygen deprivation.
In 2000, the "The Last Page" feature in Star Wars Insider 48 used a picture of the then-unnamed Holiday Special Gotal to represent Trevagg. However, the 1995 short story Nightlily: The Lovers' Tale had already established Trevagg as dying before the Holiday Special. In 2013, Star Wars Insider 144 confirmed the distinction between the two characters, naming the Holiday Special Gotal "Dratun," which was an early, discarded name for Trevagg. The fan site Starwarsholidayspecial.com had been using the name "Dratun" for the Holiday Special Gotal for several years prior to this.
