Dust bunny

Dust bunnies are a species of being that the Force-sensitive youngling Grogu came across at one point in his life. This particular group of dust bunnies interrupted his meditation before pursuing him, and eventually gave Grogu a flower as a gift.

Biology and appearance

The dust bunnies were gray and fuzzy beings, characterized by their large, white eyes. They possessed arms and legs, although these were often hidden by their fuzzy exterior. They also displayed the ability to swing from a string-like substance and maintain balance while stacked on top of each other.

History

The dust bunnies offer a flower to Grogu.

Sometime after 41 BBY, a collection of dust bunnies encountered the Force-sensitive youngling Grogu while he was engaged in meditation. They started to jump and swing around him until one finally landed on his head, disrupting his meditation before falling into a water puddle below. Grogu, who also fell into the puddle after sneezing, looked to see the dust bunnies watching him before he started to walk away.

The dust bunnies gave chase, causing him to run away from them until he turned around, resulting in one dust bunny colliding with his face and knocking him to the ground. Now having Grogu's complete focus, the creatures began to dance in front of him before offering him a [flower](/article/flower], which he accepted, bowing to them in gratitude. The dust bunnies then formed a pile around the child, who then drew a circular symbol in the air with his finger.

Behind the scenes

Dust bunnies were featured in the 2022 Disney+ animated short "Zen – Grogu and Dust Bunnies," which was created by Studio Ghibli. These creatures, known as susuwatari (ススワタリ) in Japanese and also referred to as "soot sprites," "soot gremlins," or "black soots," originated outside of the Star Wars universe in the 1988 Studio Ghibli film My Neighbor Totoro.
