Dynamet General, a medical facility situated on the world of Taris, was originally named Mercy General. It gained prominence across the galaxy as a leading research center for uncommon neurological ailments, including Cathington's Disorder. Around 4050 BBY, its name was changed to reflect a substantial donation from the Dynamet Corporation, which funded a new research wing dedicated to finding a cure for the rakghoul plague. The cataclysmic event that destroyed Taris in 3956 BBY also led to the hospital's demise, with the surrounding area subsequently being called the Sinking City.
Three centuries after the hospital's destruction, during the era of the Galactic Republic–Sith Empire Cold War, only three floors of the hospital remained structurally sound. The rakghoul population in the area had established a breeding ground within the hospital's ruins and exhibited aggressive behavior towards any intruders. Doctor Synoda tasked an individual aligned with the Republic to retrieve medical records of Taris's inhabitants predating its destruction, aiming to gather data on Colu's syndrome, a severe form of cancer uniquely affecting descendants of those who survived Taris's destruction.
During the invasion of Taris in 3642 BBY, the Galactic Republic had purged the rakghoul infestation from the hospital and intended to restore it. However, forces of the Sith Empire intentionally sabotaged the facility by contaminating the remaining kolto tanks with the rakghoul virus.
The MMORPG Star Wars: The Old Republic, released in 2011, features the hospital. It serves as a general location where players can undertake various missions that guide them to the area.
