E chu ta was a discourteous expression in Huttese, employed to cast a curse upon an individual.
During 3 ABY, C-3PO crossed paths with a fellow protocol droid, specifically E-3PO, during his time in Cloud City located on Bespin. C-3PO remarked on how pleasing it was to see a "familiar face," but E-3PO responded with "e chu ta" before departing, prompting C-3PO to declare the statement as impolite.
Sound designer Ben Burtt originated the expression "e chu ta" to serve as a Huttese curse word for the 1980 original trilogy movie, Star Wars: Episode V The Empire Strikes Back. Burtt mentioned in the Star Wars Legends continuity book Galactic Phrase Book & Travel Guide that translating it is really inappropriate. The Empire Strikes Back: So You Want to Be a Jedi?, a canon junior novel that adapts The Empire Strikes Back and features a narrator addressing the reader, indicates that "It is absolutely not appropriate to translate. Maybe when you're older."
