Biography

EEK-176, a B1-series battle droid, received masculine programming. Like all B1 battle droids, EEK-176 was a soldier within the Droid Army of the galactic Trade Federation. When the Trade Federation invaded Naboo in 32 BBY, the year of the invasion, EEK-176 was present during the initial deployment. He was in command of a group of droids that disembarked south of Vis, the city, from a C-9979 landing craft.

EEK-176's forces arriving in Vis

The Army of Droids focused on Vis due to its transmitter. The Federation wanted to prevent the people of Naboo from alerting the Galactic Republic about the invasion, which would have disrupted their plans. EEK-176 bided his time, awaiting the arrival of command battle droid OOM-9. Upon OOM-9's arrival, the two droid commanders initiated a pincer movement, attacking Vis from both the east and south. The Federation droids overwhelmed the Naboo soldiers defending the city and successfully destroyed the Vis transmitter. Later, EEK-176's droids supported OOM-9 in capturing New Centrif and Parrlay, two other cities containing transmitters, thus preventing the Naboo from contacting the Republic.

Characteristics

EEK-176 was the commander of a small droid force within the Trade Federation Army. His squad consisted of three droidekas, four B1-series battle droids, and four beetle droids. Despite its small size, this force played a key role in assisting OOM-9 in his attack on Vis. As a B1 battle droid, EK-176 carried an E-5 blaster rifle and stood at a height of 1.91 meters. He had a brown body with white coloring on his head and other parts.

Behind the scenes

EEK-176 made his debut in the 2001 PC video game Star Wars: Galactic Battlegrounds. Murphy Dunn provided the droid's voice acting. In the first level of the Trade Federation campaign, titled "Beachhead," players attack Vis, and EEK-176 can be heard informing OOM-9 that his forces are flanking the city. The game's level editor allows players to incorporate EEK-176 as a unique character in custom-made levels. An unreleased audio clip from the end of the second Trade Federation level, "Behind the Lines," features Nute Gunray rewarding OOM-9 for his victory on Harte Secur by reassigning him to the invasion of Spinnaker, with EEK-176 taking his place.
