A temple situated on the moon Yavin 4 acted as the ultimate refuge for the Sith Emperor. It housed his wounded spirit after the destruction of his physical form. The Emperor's followers planned to utilize an artifact located within the adjacent Temple of Sacrifice to absorb all life on the moon and channel it to the Emperor, with the goal of revitalizing him. However, the Imperial Guard suffered a massacre at the hands of the Order of Revan. Revan's own endeavor to employ the artifact – with the intention of restoring the Emperor for a final, decisive defeat – was unsuccessful because of the interference of the allied Sith Empire and the Galactic Republic. Resolved to eliminate the Emperor regardless, Revan escaped to the Emperor's sanctuary, but in the temple's courtyard, he was defeated in combat. The Emperor, having sustained himself on the death and disarray generated by the continuing conflict against the Revanites, managed to recover his power and left the moon without assuming a corporeal body.
