Empire 19: Target: Vader, a comic book, represents the nineteenth installment within the Star Wars: Empire comic series. Dark Horse Comics released it on May 12, 2004.
After his failure to pinpoint the location of the Rebels' new base following the Death Star's destruction, Vader endeavors to regain favor by pressuring his underworld contacts to divulge information about the Alliance. However, past actions of Vader resurface to trouble him, as a group of aliens seeks to assassinate the Sith Lord as retribution for a massacre he committed on their homeworld.
Engaging in combat with vengeful aliens is a routine occurrence. Vader's true challenge lies in confronting the man he once was and the "monster" he has evolved into…
Darth Vader makes his way to Void Station, a city built into an asteroid, in search of Jib Kopatha, a Bothan information broker. Vader voices his displeasure that Kopatha has only offered speculations to the Empire for several months, providing no concrete intelligence. Vader states that Kopatha must furnish him with details regarding the Rebel Alliance to regain the Empire's trust. Kopatha agrees and attempts to convince Vader to extend his stay in the city for a few days, tempting him with various delicacies and women, but Vader declines. As Vader heads back to the hangar to depart, Xora, a Falleen female, approaches him, promising information concerning the Rebels. Vader follows her into a seemingly vacant room, where he is ambushed by a group of Falleen seeking vengeance for his slaughter of an entire city on the planet Falleen. Despite being outnumbered and taking a hit, he succeeds in eliminating all of them. Vader seizes Xora by the throat, expressing his aversion to reminders of his past, and then he chokes her until she is dead before departing.
