Ensolica was a frigid planet of ice and tundra landscapes, situated within the Core Worlds. It served as the homeworld for the near-Human Enso species, renowned for their expertise in the field of hydroponics. Teyora Rekab, an Enso merchant who operated beyond Ensolica's boundaries, originated from this world.
This planet, Ensolica, resided within the Ensolica system, which was located in the Negs region of the Core Worlds. Ensolica was a frigid world characterized by intense ice storms, and its terrain was predominantly composed of vast ice wastes and tundra. In the relatively warmer equatorial zones, forests of coniferous trees thrived.
Captain Teyora Rekab, an Enso merchant and expert in hydroponics, along with her Enso starship crew, operated offworld around 32 BBY, originating from Ensolica. Individuals outside the ancient House Praji of the Core Worlds sometimes likened their perceived cruelty to the harsh storms of Ensolica, a point highlighted by Doctor Gabrel Treon in his article "Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Praji: A Cartel of Genes," which appeared in the Byblos Journal of Historical Science in 104 ABY.
Ensolica was the original homeworld of the Ensos, a near-Human species that evolved to withstand the planet's challenging environment. To maintain a comfortable body temperature when traveling beyond their world, Ensos frequently wore specialized coolth suits. Most Ensos inhabited cities carved into Ensolica's icy landscapes, and they were, out of necessity, skilled in plant hydroponics. Consequently, corporations operating offworld, such as Alderaan Biotics and Tusus Comestibles, often sought to recruit the most proficient Ensos.
The development of Ensolica occurred as part of the background story for Teyora Rekab, a character who initially lacked a name and appeared in the 1999 prequel trilogy film, Star Wars: Episode I The Phantom Menace. Nathan O'Keefe, writing under the pseudonym "Valin Kenobi," submitted Rekab's story through the StarWars.com Hyperspace feature "What's The Story?," and it was subsequently added to the site's Databank on January 12, 2007. In the 2009 reference book titled The Essential Atlas, the Ensolica system, and thus Ensolica itself, was located within grid square K-10.
