Uprising on Geonosis
Poggle the Lesser, the Archduke, secretly triggered a Geonosis uprising that involved Geonosian drones engaging in a full scale riot. By orchestrating this event, Poggle aimed to break free from the detention of the Galactic Republic and run away to the Confederacy of Independent Systems. This riot, which facilitated the Geonosian Archduke's successful evasion, also compromised the highly classified construction project that was taking place in orbit around Geonosis.
Behind the scenes
The first mention of Poggle the Lesser's flight from Republic imprisonment appeared in the Ultimate Star Wars reference book from 2015. This event was subsequently portrayed in more detail within James Luceno's 2016 novel, Catalyst: A Rogue One Novel. Following the release of Catalyst, the 2019 revised edition of Ultimate Star Wars, titled Ultimate Star Wars, New Edition, incorporated the details of Poggle's role from Catalyst. This later edition utilized the novel's depiction to expand upon the account of his escape, officially naming the event the "uprising on Geonosis."
