Sometime prior to the conflict known as the Battle of Coruscant, a mission was dispatched to the planet called Malachor. This mission was carried out under the orders of Darth Sidious, a Dark Lord of the Sith who was publicly known as Supreme Chancellor Sheev Palpatine of the Galactic Republic. On Malachor, they successfully located and obtained a artifact referred to as the Sith Chalice, which was then delivered to Sidious.
The 2016 reference guide, Star Wars: Complete Locations, was the first source to mention the mission which recovered the Sith Chalice. The Legends iteration of the same book, released in 2005, stated that the Chalice was discovered on Yavin 4 during the Wolhanian expedition, instead of Malachor.
