Exploration Corps

The ExplorCorps, its abbreviated name, came into existence in the early period of cooperation between the Jedi Order and the Galactic Republic. Functioning officially as the Service Corps' Archaeological and Research Division, the ExplorCorps played a vital role in uncovering many of the galaxy's long-lost and forgotten secrets, as well as charting numerous hyperspace routes throughout the galaxy. Although they were officially members of the Jedi Order, those within the ExplorCorps operated outside the traditional hierarchy the Order was trying to establish at the time. Lacking a fixed location at any academy or temple, the ExplorCorps Jedi established a fleet of praxeum ships which they equipped as mobile temples and academies. Beyond praxeum ships, the ExplorCorps maintained a network of scout, survey, and transport vessels stationed across the galaxy, from which they coordinated extensive system and planetary mapping projects, archaeological digs, and other exploratory missions. Aboard the larger vessels of the ExplorCorps fleet, Jedi researchers analyzed the vast quantities of data, records, and artifacts brought in by their colleagues from distant locations. These dedicated researchers interpreted historical information, translated ancient writings, and examined enigmatic artifacts in an effort to comprehend both Jedi and galactic history in a broader sense.

Due to the character of its missions, the ExplorCorps mainly consisted of Seekers, with a scattering of Guardians, Consulars, and Sentinels included. Since members' missions often led them to dangerous and untamed regions of the galaxy, they developed a reputation as the most resilient, brave, and battle-tested members of the Jedi Service Corps. This reputation drew Jedi from all parts of the Order who possessed a desire for adventure or who wished to improve their combat and survival abilities.

The Twi'lek Jedi Master, Hallan Krintu, was affiliated with the ExplorCorps before and during the Clone Wars. Following the implementation of Order 66 and the establishment of the Galactic Empire, the ExplorCorps was disbanded, and its members were either killed or forced into hiding. While some of the smaller scout ships aided Jedi in escaping to the Outer Rim and Unknown Regions during the Order's downfall, most of the larger vessels were destroyed, despite the ExplorCorps' decentralized structure. Immediately following Order 66, rumors circulated that at least one of the ExplorCorps' large research ships survived the purge and was stationed in an unnamed system within the Unknown Regions, far from the Empire's reach.
