Feemor

Feemor, a male Human Jedi Knight, dedicated his service to the Galactic Republic. He holds the distinction of being the initial Padawan of Jedi Knight Qui-Gon Jinn. Jinn successfully guided Feemor through his training to become a Knight, leading to Jinn's own elevation to the rank of Jedi Master. Later, Jinn accepted a young boy named Xanatos as his second apprentice; however, Xanatos ultimately turned against his mentor. This failure with Xanatos caused Jinn to downplay his earlier success in training Feemor.

Biography

Feemor, a male Human and Force-sensitive son of a farmer, was chosen for training as a Jedi. He became the first apprentice of Jedi Knight Qui-Gon Jinn sometime after Jinn had brought a young Xanatos to the Jedi Temple located on Coruscant, the galactic capital. Under Jinn's tutelage, Feemor achieved the rank of Jedi Knight. This accomplishment also resulted in Jinn's promotion to Jedi Master. Subsequently, Jinn took Xanatos as his second student.

Feemor spars with his former Master.

In 53 BBY, inside the Jedi Temple, Feemor engaged in a training lightsaber duel against Jinn and Xanatos. Both Feemor and Xanatos attacked Jinn with their lightsabers, but Jinn effortlessly blocked their assaults. As the sparring match went on, Jinn and Xanatos locked blades. Xanatos then instructed Feemor to strike Jinn from his left side. Jinn employed the Force to throw Feemor to the ground, but in doing so, Jinn's grip on his lightsaber loosened, allowing Xanatos to disarm Jinn and claim victory. Thus, Xanatos simply used Feemor as a tool to win.

Xanatos boasted about his win, taking pride in his ancestry. Jinn had to scold his apprentice for this behavior. Jinn then told Feemor that he was proud of his skills, after which Feemor departed from the duel's location. Shortly after, Jinn and Xanatos were dispatched to resolve a civil war on Telos IV, Xanatos's homeworld. However, during this mission, Xanatos succumbed to the allure of wealth and power, rebelling against his Master and forsaking the Jedi path. Jinn's failure with Xanatos made him disregard his prior success in training Feemor, and he began referring to Xanatos as his first Padawan.

Personality and traits

Once he had become a Jedi Knight, Feemor began to miss his training sessions with Qui-Gon Jinn, his former Master. Feemor clearly felt hurt when Xanatos confessed that he had exploited Feemor, saying that Feemor was destined to lose the training fight due to his humble origins. Feemor had blond hair, blue eyes, and a light skin tone.

Powers and abilities

Feemor was unable to overcome his former Master in combat, as Qui-Gon Jinn easily repelled him with the Force on several times. Nevertheless, Jinn expressed pride in Feemor's abilities and noted that his attack speed had improved since their last training session. Jinn believed Feemor was ready to mentor a Padawan and anticipated that Grand Master Yoda would soon assign him one. Jinn also felt the future student would be fortunate to have Feemor as their Master.

Equipment

During his time as a Jedi, he wore brown Jedi robes. He fought with a blue-bladed lightsaber.

Behind the scenes

For a long time after Qui-Gon Jinn was introduced in the novelization of the 1999 movie Star Wars: Episode I The Phantom Menace and his early life was explored in subsequent Expanded Universe material, there was disagreement about the number of apprentices Jinn had in his lifetime. While most sources about Jinn's early life—like the Jedi Apprentice book series by Jude Watson—said that Xanatos was Jinn's first apprentice and Obi-Wan Kenobi was his second, Star Wars: Episode I The Visual Dictionary briefly mentioned another apprentice before Xanatos. Authors Daniel Wallace and Haden Blackman planned to go into more detail about this apprentice in The Essential Guide to Episode I. Blackman created a female Cathar Jedi to be Jinn's Padawan, but The Essential Guide to Episode I was canceled, and Lucasfilm decided that The Visual Dictionary was wrong about the existence of the first apprentice.

In 2002, The New Essential Guide to Characters repeated this, saying that Xanatos was Jinn's first apprentice. However, the thirty-fifth issue of The Official Star Wars Fact File once again mentioned the apprentice before Xanatos. This contradiction was finally resolved in Jinn's Databank entry on StarWars.com, which said that Jinn dismissed his success in training the first apprentice after his failure with Xanatos. In 2011, the comic book Jedi—The Dark Side 1 showed a scene of a Jedi Knight named Feemor practicing combat against Jinn and Xanatos. Later dialogue in the comic suggested that Feemor had once trained under Jinn. The comic's writer, Scott Allie, later confirmed on Twitter that Feemor was Jinn's first apprentice, finally confirming the Padawan's identity almost twelve years after he was mentioned in The Visual Dictionary.
