Fenel, situated within the Demetras sector, was a planet located within the Outer Rim Territories. It served as the original homeworld for the Fenelar species. This influential planet, known for its starshipwrights and skilled technologists, met a tragic fate when it was invaded by the Mandalorian Crusaders, which ultimately led to the Fenelar's demise. Subsequently, Fenel transitioned into a Mandalorian territory and endured bombardment at the hands of the Galactic Republic during the events of the Mandalorian Excision.
Fenel existed as a terrestrial world, residing in the Fenel system. This system was a component of the Demetras sector, found within the Trans-Hydian region of the Outer Rim Territories.
Sometime between 7000 BBY and the 6700s BBY, the warrior culture known as the Mandalorian Crusaders began their raids on Fenel and its indigenous Fenelar species. According to the text Ba'jurne Kyr'tsad Mando'ad, attributed to the later Mandalorian Tor Vizsla, the Crusaders deemed the Fenelar "unworthy and unclean." These raids ultimately culminated in the extinction of the Fenelar by the 6700s BBY.
Eventually, Fenel rose to prominence as a significant Mandalorian planet, standing alongside Concord Dawn, Ordo, and the Mandalorian homeworld, Mandalore. All these planets suffered devastating orbital bombardment during the Galactic Republic's 738 BBY operation, known as the Mandalorian Excision. Consequently, large areas remained barren even by the time of the Galactic Empire's reign centuries afterward. Vilnau Teupt briefly touched on Fenel's past in his keynote address, "Industry, Honor, Savagery: Shaping the Mandalorian Soul," presented at Brentaal Academy's 412th Proceedings of Galactic Anthropology and History in 24 ABY.
Fenel was the original home of the sentient Fenelar species. Prior to their extinction, Fenel was a powerful, albeit isolationist, world with renowned starshipwrights and technologists. Following the Fenelar's demise, Fenel became a key Mandalorian planet.
Fenel received a mention in the 2012 reference book, The Essential Guide to Warfare, authored by Jason Fry and Paul R. Urquhart. The 2009 reference book, The Essential Atlas, placed the Fenel system, and thus Fenel itself, within grid square O-7.
