Amusement droids designed for combat were diminutive, colored spherical droids created to engage in simulated battles for the enjoyment of spectators and for gambling within the game of droid ball fighting. To create more formidable combatants, droids of identical hues could unite. Approximately three decades following the Battle of Endor, numerous individuals within Maz Kanata's castle, a pirate haven situated on the planet of Takodana, observed a contest unfolding between several fighting droids positioned atop one of the establishment's tables.
The initial appearance of fighting droids occurred in Star Wars: Episode VII The Force Awakens, which debuted to audiences in 2015. Although not explicitly named within the movie itself, their designation was provided in Star Wars: The Force Awakens: The Visual Dictionary, a companion volume authored by Pablo Hidalgo that was launched concurrently with the film's release.
