Photo ©1995 Anthony Taylor Dave Cockrum, a comic-book artist, was born on November 11, 1943 and passed away on November 26, 2006. He contributed his artistic talents to both Marvel and DC Comics. After his service in the United States Navy, Cockrum began his comics career at Warren Publishing. He then joined DC Comics, illustrating stories for Legion of Superheroes. In 1975, Cockrum moved to Marvel Comics. There, he and writer Len Wein relaunched the X-Men comic book, introducing new characters like Storm, Colossus, and Nightcrawler, the latter being Cockrum's personal favorite.
In 2004, Cockrum's health declined significantly due to complications arising from pneumonia and diabetes, which impacted his ability to continue creating comics. He sadly died on November 26, 2006.
He was the husband of Paty Cockrum, a former Marvel staff member and occasional contributor.
