An overview depicting the layout of the research station. The Imperial Research Station represented a complex erected under the direction of Moff Kentor Sarne's forces on the planet called Binaros.
This Research Station was assembled using multiple modular units, which were then embedded within the hillside situated behind the ancient temple ruins. The sole access point known to exist was a turbolift, cleverly hidden within the crypt chamber of the aforementioned ruins.
The turbolift's arrival point was a spacious communications center, furnished with a trio of computer terminals and seating for nine individuals. Along the right-hand wall, twin doorways provided access to the barracks and the officer living quarters. The barracks were designed to house eight individuals, featuring four standard Imperial-issue beds aligned against each wall. The officer's quarters were further divided into two distinct rooms, each equipped with a bunk, a folding chair, and a desk. Positioned opposite the barracks and officer's quarters were the scientist's living areas. These quarters included six bunks and an individual computer terminal for each scientist.
Located at the facility's rear were the biolab, the biotesting lab, and a general storage area. The biolab featured four central work tables, complemented by four self-contained mini-labs positioned along the back wall. Each mini-lab had the capacity to maintain unique environmental conditions for diverse experimentation. The biotesting lab served as a space for evaluating biological substances, with equipment brought in on an as-needed basis depending on the specific requirements of each experiment. The storeroom functioned as a multi-purpose area for keeping an assortment of equipment and supplies.
Following the discovery of temple ruins on Binaros, Moff Sarne made the decision to establish a clandestine research installation on the planet, utilizing the temple as a disguise. The construction involved burying prefabricated units into the hill behind the temple. An airstrip, requiring regular clearing of plant growth, was situated approximately one hundred and seventy-five meters northeast of the temple ruins, serving as a landing zone for supply ships.
This research facility was employed for the purpose of testing a variety of bioweapons developed for Sarne's purposes.
The facility was ultimately abandoned around 7 ABY when Moff Sarne issued orders for his research teams to return to Kal'Shebbol. All computer systems underwent complete data erasure, and a BlasTech T-21 light repeating blaster was strategically placed in the comm room, secured on a tripod. Connected to the turbo lift door via a computer interface, the weapon was programmed to automatically fire upon the door's opening. In addition, the Imperials left behind four Arakyd G-2RD Guard Droids within the biolab, alongside MSE-X-PR6. A beacon was also deployed within the facility, designed to activate and transmit a signal to the nearest Imperial unit should the base's security be breached.
Around 8 ABY, the crew members of the New Republic corvette FarStar stumbled upon the facility's location. After successfully gaining entry, overcoming the security measures, and neutralizing the guard droids, they recovered any valuable materials before departing the planet.
