The lava smelting facility known as Firefrost Lavaworks existed within a cavern beneath the Glacial Fissure area of the planet Hoth during the era of the Cold War. This operation, controlled by Gradak Ungan, a pirate belonging to the White Maw gang, could be entered through an opening in White Maw Pass. To lure out Reneget Vause, a bounty hunter tracked down Gradak and killed him inside the Lavaworks. Circa 3630 BBY, Forgemaster Droub had taken control of the facility, using it to amass a collection of weapons. Shortly thereafter, the Commander of the Eternal Alliance spearheaded an assault that liberated Firefrost Lavaworks by wiping out all White Maw personnel. Following the securing of Firefrost Lavaworks and the rescue of its civilian workforce, the Eternal Alliance made the factory their base of operations. The Alliance reconfigured the factory for their own needs, and the civilians freed by the Alliance chose to operate the factory for them.
