Vestara Khai, a Sith apprentice, gave the name "First" to a Human female. This girl had been enslaved on B'nish. Around 41.5 ABY, she managed to stow away on a Damorian S18 light freighter. The starship was then attacked by the Sith Meditation Sphere Ship and had to make an emergency landing on a nearby planet. It was on this planet that she encountered Vestara Khai, who subsequently killed her using her parang. Upon Ship's instruction to name the girl, Khai chose "First", expressing her aspiration for the girl to be the first of many lives she would take.
A Human girl, female, endured a period of enslavement on B'nish, resulting in multiple scars at a young age. Around 41.5 ABY, when a Damorian S18 light freighter arrived at B'nish, she saw an opportunity. With the assistance of the starship's pilots, she secretly boarded the vessel, wearing only a single, worn garment that covered her from shoulders to knees.

However, after the ship left the planet of Eriadu, the Lost Tribe of Sith from Kesh launched an attack using their Sith Meditation Sphere, Ship. The sphere opened fire, and the freighter, sustaining significant damage, was forced to crash-land on a nearby planet for urgent repairs. During the harsh landing, the girl suffered a head wound and lost consciousness.
Upon regaining consciousness, she came face to face with Vestara Khai, an apprentice of the Lost Tribe. Noticing an activated lightsaber in Khai's hand, the girl pleaded for her life. She offered Khai the ship's cargo, promising that nobody would ever know if Khai let her escape, as her name was not listed on any crew manifest. However, Khai stated that she would have to kill her, offering a painless death if the girl would kneel in compliance. The girl, in tears, proclaimed that her life belonged to her and that she would no longer be a servant to anyone. As she attempted to flee, Khai threw her glass [parang](/article/parang-legends], killing her instantly. Approaching the girl and wondering what her name was, Ship instructed Khai to name the girl herself. After a moment's consideration, Khai named the girl "First," envisioning her as the first of many lives she intended to take as a Sith apprentice.
Despite being a slave, the blue-eyed girl, "First," possessed a deep love for life. She yearned for a life of her own choosing, free from the commands of others. When threatened by Vestara Khai's lightsaber, First offered the freighter's cargo and begged for her life to be spared. Though terrified to tears at the prospect of death, First displayed strength and determination to live her final moments as a free individual, refusing to kneel as instructed. Instead, the girl fled, and although Khai killed her, the disturbance her death caused in the Force was enough to momentarily stun the Sith, as the girl possessed a passion for life that Khai had never before encountered.
The character of First was first indirectly referenced in Christie Golden's 2010 novel, Fate of the Jedi: Allies, the fifth installment in the Fate of the Jedi series. Later, she appeared in Golden's short story, "First Blood," featured in the 125th issue of Star Wars Insider magazine. This short story, which included illustrations by Brian Rood and was released on April 26, 2011, presents an image of Khai standing over First's lifeless body.
While First claimed to be from B'nish, and the ship carrying her had departed from Eriadu, neither Allies nor "First Blood" explicitly names the planet where First's ship was compelled to land.
