The Fleet Shuttle of the New Republic, often called the gig by its users, was a starship that had a comparable size to both the X-wing and the TIE Interceptor.
The regular transportation of personnel between close-proximity New Republic warships was accomplished using fleet shuttles. In times of battle, some pilots, for instance Second Lieutenant Plat Mallar serving on the Mandjur, received orders to pilot fleet shuttles to retrieve deceased pilots or those stranded outside their craft. There were even other shuttles, such as the Tampion, that were employed for VIP personnel transport across interstellar distances.
The New Republic Third, Fourth, and Fifth Fleets included fleet shuttles in their ranks.
