Plot summary

The Jawa and his new catch

Grubbat Fhilch's gamble proved fatal. Above a sarlacc pit, he directs curses at Jabba the Hutt and the bounty hunter Boba Fett, just before a Gamorrean Guard shoves him into the abyss. Despite Fett's skepticism, Grubbat swears vengeance.

Subsequently, the Sarlacc sends its young into the environment. The Sarlacc "baby" latches onto a dewback being ridden by Imperial sandtroopers, extracting blood for sustenance.

Later, the troopers task a group of Jawas with cleaning their dewbacks. One Jawa dislodges the "baby" from a dewback and places it within a water-filled bottle. Unaware of its true nature, the Jawa employs it as a scrubbing tool on a droid. At the Jawa encampment, the "baby" manages to break free from its bottle while the Jawa is summoned to dinner in a nearby tent, and it attaches to a bird-like creature, feeding on its blood.

As the sarlacc "baby" matures, it confronts a larger, three-headed, spider-like creature. Initially, it appears defeated, with the spider consuming the sarlacc larva. However, the spider-like creature succumbs to death as it settles down to sleep, consumed from within by the sarlacc. Having finished its meal, the sarlacc burrows into the ground.

In 4 ABY, Jabba the Hutt and Boba Fett escort Luke Skywalker, Chewbacca, and Han Solo to the Great Pit of Carkoon, intending to cast them into the very sarlacc whose life cycle the story has depicted. The narrative concludes by suggesting that Grubbat will soon achieve his unexpected retribution.
