Findsman

The findsmen (a single individual is a findsman) were a religious order of bounty hunters unique to the Gand species; these individuals were Force-sensitive, though they did not believe their abilities came from the Force. They worshiped the mists that enshrouded the planet Gand, interpreting omens within them to locate their targets. A Gand might become a findsman during a janwuine-jika. Through mystical rituals, which could last a minimum of three hours, findsmen could discern signs that led them to people, objects, locations, and even occurrences. Findsmen were highly respected within Gand society, and their title also carried some prestige beyond their own culture.

Venlyss Pnorr Venlyss Pnorr Some findsmen groups would have their initiates undergo chemical baths or even genetic alterations, resulting in knob-like growths on their exoskeletons. These jagged growths, typically found on the arms and legs and measuring approximately four to five centimeters, were then employed as weapons in unarmed combat.

Centuries before the Galactic Civil War, the findsmen had created a martial arts style that exploited Gand physiology. While the principles of this style remained obscure, certain techniques were known, such as "Piercing Touch" and "Striking Mist." "Piercing Touch" was a very strong punch that could penetrate bone, [chitin](/article/chitin/legends], and various types of armors. Ooryl Qrygg used this move on Talasea, punching through stormtrooper armor. "Striking Mist" allowed the Gand to approach their opponent undetected, making their attacks impossible to block or evade.

Those outside the order often viewed the findsmen as a peculiar religious group focused on hunting, but the Gand themselves considered findsmen to be on a "path to truth."

Findsmen were employed as security advisors, bodyguards, bounty hunters, investigators, and even assassins. Becoming a findsman required significant dedication and learning, and abandoning the tradition often resulted in a death sentence. If a findsman's sect discovered that they had strayed from the path, they would likely be considered a rogue and killed immediately.

In 3951 BBY, nearly one hundred Gand bounty hunters traveled to Nar Shaddaa temporarily to assist G0-T0 in locating Meetra Surik. Several findsmen were among them, most of whom were killed by Surik and her allies during the resulting conflict.

The findsman tradition was declining prior to 3 ABY. During the Galactic Civil War, the bounty hunter Zuckuss and the pilot Ooryl Qrygg were findsmen, representing some of the few who had left their homeworld.
