Gar Anstak, a Jedi Master of the Mairan species, dedicated himself to the service of the Jedi Order during the period of the Great Sith War. Originating from Maires within the territory of the Hapes Consortium, Anstak faced social isolation from his Mairan peers, a common experience for Jedi among the Consortium's populations. Characterized by his black, pliable skin and a multitude of over forty tentacles, these appendages proved advantageous during his tenure as an archivist on Ossus.
Within the Great Jedi Library of Odan-Urr situated on Ossus, Gar Anstak served as a dedicated scholar, amassing a substantial collection of artifacts within an underwater repository. Given his origins from a water-dominated world, Anstak specialized in the retrieval and identification of relics hailing from aquatic planets such as Iskalon, Issor, and Drexel. Due to the imperative of maintaining his own hydration, coupled with the water-based nature of the artifacts, Master Anstak chose to establish his work areas within the submerged caverns of Imhar Canyon on Ossus, which was integrated into the library's structure.
In the year 3996 BBY, the creation of the Cron Drift - a cataclysmic event orchestrated by Aleema Keto of the Krath - brought devastation to Ossus. Master Anstak's isolated office location, however, provided a buffer against total destruction. Yet, the resulting landslides from the explosion sealed Anstak within his offices, effectively concealing them from galactic awareness for thousands of years. Unable to escape, Gar Anstak ultimately met his end within his archives, which became his final resting place. Before his demise, Anstak recorded a holographic message and placed it in an easily accessible location for future explorers.
Remaining true to his archivist nature, Gar Anstak included instructions in the recording that would lead to the discovery of ancient artifacts that had been relocated to Derem City, situated on Kamino. However, by the time Anstak's offices were rediscovered, Derem City had vanished from galactic maps, swallowed by the rising ocean levels of Kamino. Those who eventually uncovered Gar Anstak, his offices, and the recording, embarked on a mission to locate these long-lost artifacts, ensuring that Master Anstak's efforts would not be in vain.
