Giles, a cadet of the Imperial military, was born a male born prior to 5 BBY, specifically by 18 BBY. He was training at the Academy for Young Imperials located on the planet of Lothal. During the time Imperial Academies on Lothal were investigating cadets for possible treason, Giles and other cadets picked up on a story circulating that a large number of cadets from a nearby academy had been kicked out. Additionally, Giles' brother told him about a cadet from the Pretor Flats Academy who allegedly confessed to treason and was arrested by stormtroopers.
Subsequently, Giles partnered with Uzall in a training exercise. This mission involved cadet pairs going to various residences in Capital City to inquire about any illicit actions they may have witnessed. When the training concluded, and the cadet teams were given scores based on their questioning outcomes, Giles and Uzall achieved the highest score. This was because a weapons smuggler ran away from a house within their designated zone.
