Golan space defense platform

Golan-Comparison-TLCSB A size comparison illustrating Golan stations relative to an Imperial-class Star Destroyer. The Golan Space Defense Platforms (GSDP's) represented a sequence of heavily armed space stations manufactured by Golan Arms. They possessed significantly greater firepower and defensive capabilities compared to XQ Platforms.

Intended for safeguarding crucial planets and installations, production of the initial Golan platforms commenced in the waning years of the Galactic Republic. As the Clone Wars triggered an escalation in the creation of increasingly massive warships, the original Golan SpaceGun was superseded by the Golan II Space Defense SpaceGun and the Golan III Space Defense NovaGun. Later iterations, such as the Golan VIII, were equipped with a hyperdrive to facilitate relocation of the platform if necessary.

Throughout the time spanning the Clone Wars through the emergence of the Galactic Federation of Free Alliances, Golan platforms participated in numerous significant engagements, including the Battle of Duro and the Battle of Bilbringi.

During the Yuuzhan Vong War, several Golan IIIs were deployed to protect Coruscant during the battle over it. They comprised the second layer of Coruscant's four-tiered defensive arrangement. Following Coruscant's capture, the Yuuzhan Vong forcibly displaced at least one of the platforms from its orbit, causing it to plummet onto the planet's surface, an event documented by Tam Elgrin.

More than a hundred years afterward, the Galactic Alliance Remnant utilized the Golan VIII space defense platform.
