Golan II Space Defense SpaceGun

The Golan II Space Defense SpaceGun, often shortened to just Golan II, represented the second iteration of space stations produced by Golan Arms within their series of space defense platforms.

Description

A Golan II

Serving as an advanced version of the initial Golan platform, the Golan II was developed because the original was deemed insufficient for handling larger vessels, such as Star Destroyers. While maintaining the core design principles and functionality of its predecessor, the Golan II incorporated a distinctive crossbeam structure in its hull for enhanced resilience. Moreover, it featured more effective power generators that enabled a substantial boost in shield strength.

Equipped with 35 turbolaser batteries, 10 proton torpedo launchers, and 8 tractor beam projectors, the Golan II station possessed significant firepower. Similar to the Golan I, it also included a hangar bay capable of deploying a minimum of 13 starfighters.

History

A Golan II SpaceGun with several Imperial-class Star Destroyers and X-wings

Golan II platforms were deployed to protect high-value assets, including the Imperial shipyards located in the Bilbringi system. During the Battle of Bilbringi, a single Golan II required the combined might of Rogue Squadron and two New Republic assault frigates to be taken out of action.

Despite their substantial offensive capabilities, the Golan II ultimately proved inadequate and was superseded by the Golan III Space Defense NovaGun stations.

Grand Admiral Thrawn, while leading the Imperial Navy, had a Golan II modified with a cloaking device; this modification was later discovered during the Second Battle of Bilbringi.

Golan II platforms remained in service well into the latter stages of the Yuuzhan Vong War.
