The Golan III Space Defense NovaGun, often shortened to Golan III, represented the third iteration of Golan Arms' series of space defense platforms, categorized as a space station.
Engineered as a more potent successor to the perilous Golan II, the Golan III boasted larger dimensions and, arguably, superior firepower compared to an Imperial-class Star Destroyer. Mirroring the Golan II's enhanced deflector shields and more resilient hull relative to the Golan I, the Golan III featured shields at least 25% stronger and a similarly improved hull durability when contrasted with the Golan II.
Its armament included 50 turbolaser batteries, 24 proton torpedo launchers, and 15 tractor beam projectors. Furthermore, it possessed a hangar capable of accommodating a minimum of 12 starfighters.
Golan III platforms were strategically positioned to safeguard the most critical locations throughout the galaxy. A prominent application of Golan III platforms involved their deployment as scanner stations within the Byss Security Zone, where they operated in conjunction with Allegiance-class battlecruisers.
Several Golan IIIs were integrated into Coruscant's Defense Fleet during the Imperial Period. A significant number of these platforms were destroyed during the New Republic's took of Coruscant from Director Ysanne Isard.
Additionally, they were stationed above numerous other strategically important worlds, including the Zhar system, Coruscant, and Muunilinst, remaining operational through the conclusion of the Yuuzhan Vong War and beyond.
